Abbot The APOSTOLIC NUNCIO, Monsignor Aldo Cavalli, have recommended that, in these days of Easter, the priests preach in their sermons against the possibility that the homosexuals adopt children, a subject that shortly will have to debate the Constitutional Court. For the Catholic Church, the family model is the one that, according to the Bible, Adam and Eva conformed, that is to say, a man and a woman, and this is the unique type of apt family to adopt a minor.
What the Court in particular must solve is “if it ratifies or not it decision of the Administrative Court of Antioch, that orders to the Colombian Institute of Familiar Well-being to transact the request of a pair of lesbians who ask that to one of them she is allowed him to adopt the daughter of its companion”. It is created, wrongly, that the sexual direction grants or acquittal qualities morals. The certain thing is the sexual inclinations of a person (hétero, I saw, homo) do not turn it into a better or worse citizen, into one better or worse mother of family. The homosexual identity, to droughts, does not say to anything on the qualities morals to us of the person. As Philip Pullman says, “we can control what we do, but not what we are.
What we do is morally significant. What we are, not”. And it adds, a little advanced more: “To the Jeffrey clergyman John it was prevented him to be bishop of Reading because of its homosexuality: although the celibacy practiced, mattered what was, what did not do. If `eres' homosexual, although you take to a faultless life of abstinence and abstention, not for that reason you stop being impure and abominable and unworthy to belong to the clergy”. Against the homosexuals as possible adopting parents exist the same prejudice: one judges them a priori reason why “they are” and not reason why they make or they stop do. The sexual direction of a possible candidate to father substitute would not have to be a criterion in case of selection. The question by the sexual preferences of the adopting one is not pertinent. As well as the race, the language or the nationality, generally, would not have to matter, the sexual inclinations would have either to play any role when choosing to the adoptive father. What must settle down is if that person has been a good citizen and if after passed certain psychological tests it is possible to be supposed that he would be a good father. He would be excellent its file of activities (if he has been violent, thief, assassin, corrupt, indolent before the other people's necessity), but its being or not to be homosexual, because among others things “to make” homosexual are not any crime nor any moral lack either. That the Church considers a sin, is another thing, that already God in the other life will judge, but in this life, for reasonable a human moral, in this behavior there is nothing no repudiable ethically speaking. Some treat homosexuality as if outside a contagious disease. Neither it is disease nor she is contagious.
Nobody has become homosexual by the “bad example”, we put, of an uncle marica. In the same way that the homosexuals do not become heterosexual no matter how much the majority of the population gives the “good permanent example them” of “a straight” behavior. It is the voluntary idea of certain psychologists, and a part of the Church, which produces more sadness and frustration: to think that with a effort of discipline and will that one that is homosexual can behave like heterosexual. This would have to be called, simply, incitement to hypocrisy. To the homosexuals it is prohibited them to adopt, but nothing prevents them, luckyly, to have biological children. If they are women, is enough a semen donor (or a cloning, soon); if they are men, is enough an obliging belly (paid or not). Not even to the violent ones or the delinquents it is prevented them (preventively) to adopt. Why to prevent it to the homosexuals? And as far as following the model Biblical, that yes that is rare. The unique possibility so that the human sort was not extinguished had to be incesto between the children of Adam and Eva.
